Welcome to Our Family Farm: A Legacy of Sustainability and Care
At our farm, tradition, sustainability, and the health of the land come together to create something truly special. Our story begins over a century ago, when my grandfather, Thorovald, purchased the original acreage that would become the foundation of our family’s farming legacy. In fact, the remnants of the old barn he built still stand there today, a testament to his vision and hard work.
As the years passed, my father took the reins, expanding the farm and purchasing additional land—where we live today—and continuing the work that Grandpa started. With each generation, the farm has evolved, but one thing has always remained constant: a commitment to preserving the land and passing it down to the next generation.
Growing up, I was surrounded by beef, dairy, and sheep. These animals weren’t just part of our livelihood—they were part of my childhood and formed the foundation of my understanding of farming. Caring for them, watching them grow, and experiencing their connection to the land shaped my view of how farming should be done. It wasn’t just about raising animals for food—it was about building a relationship with the land and the creatures that call it home. Those formative years left a lasting impact on me and instilled a deep love for the farm life.
When my wife, Susan, and I decided to bring a few cows back to the farm in 2008, it was with the hope of sharing that same connection to farm life with our children, Keeler and Spencer. We wanted them to experience firsthand the hard work, the relationships, and the lessons that come from caring for livestock, just as I had. What began as a small project soon grew, and by 2015, we made the decision to shift toward more sustainable farming practices, moving away from conventional grazing methods and changing the way we cared for our cattle. We stopped feeding grains, eliminated chemicals from our pastures, and embraced natural weed control and pasture management. Over time, we’ve transformed our tillable acres into perennial pastures and adopted winter bale grazing to increase soil fertility.
Today, our farm continues to evolve. We focus on raising cattle that thrive on grasses, legumes, and forbs—ensuring that our animals are healthy and our land is nourished. The recent birth of our fifth generation has inspired us to push even harder to improve the quality of both our soil and the food it produces. It’s a commitment to sustainable farming that we believe will benefit the land, the animals, and future generations of our family and yours.
I grew up surrounded by farm animals, and now, we are honored to offer you a taste of that same experience. When you support us, you’re not just buying beef—you’re gaining a direct connection to the land and the lifestyle I grew up with. By choosing our farm, you’re helping sustain an operation that is rooted in tradition, built on respect for the land, and committed to sustainability. Every year, we strive to learn, grow, and leave the land better than we found it, ensuring it remains healthy for generations to come.
